A tutorial for people who want to read, navigate, and search a federated wiki.
In my wife's words when reviewing the first draft of this tutorial: "What the heck is a federated wiki?" If you want to know that too, click on Motivation.
----
Most people will have gotten here by clicking on a How to Browse a Wiki link on the Welcome Visitors page of some other wiki. Those people will see this:

Hint: You can double-click on the image to enlarge it.
(If you took a detour to the Motivation page, it will appear to the right of this page.)
In the normal entrance to the tutorial, you clicked on the left page to make the right page appear. If that isn't how you got here, follow the instructions on How to Start to get to the starting point the rest of the tutorial assumes.
These two (or three) pages are the **lineup**. It takes up a single browser tab and contains some number of **wiki pages**.
---
These pages come from two different wikis. The left one is your home or **origin** wiki. When you clicked the link there, you fetched the other page (the one you're reading) from a different wiki, one devoted to this tutorial. It's outlined in blue to indicate to you that it's from a different wiki than the origin.
Wiki pages can contain Internal Links and **external links **. As you can see, external links have a little arrow after them. When you click on such a link, the site referred to is opened in a new browser tab, one that is "outside" the federated wiki.
An internal link to a wiki page is always the title of the page. For that reason, internal links are often called **titles** or **title links**.
Now click this: New Lineup Entry and follow the directions.
---
At this point, the lineup consists of three pages:
You're reading the middle page, and New Lineup Entry is to the right.
Now click on Replacement Page. Everything to the right of this page is replaced. (In this case, that was only one page, but there could have been more.)
You can also add a new page to the end of the lineup, without replacing anything. For example, you might want to put Replacement Page and Additional Page next to each other for easy comparison. To see how that works, **Shift-Click** on Additional Page.
